8 Free SEO Tools
Some say the best things in life are free—well, so are these free and handy SEO tools! Not only are these tools free, they also help save time and brainpower. Here are a few tools that are helpful on a daily basis.
1. Google Trends
Google Trends is a great way to see what queries are trending in a certain location. It is a quick look into keywords and categories that may have been otherwise overlooked. Google trends features top searched and rising quires. Its parameters also allow exploration in trending terms throughout periods of time, categories and means of web search (web, image, news, Google Shopping, Youtube).
2. Moz Toolbar
The Moz Toolbar lends a helpful hand while evaluating several on page and off-page factors. A few on page elements include the page title, meta description, H1, H2, text to code ratio, and alt text. The tool bar also gives a quick look into the link structure and the types of links that are on a page. Additionally, the toolbar features page authority, domain authority, and social media activity of the page. If the Moz Toolbar is turned on while conducting a Google search, it identifies the difficulty of the search query in question.
3. Übersuggest
Ubersuggest is an excellent keyword suggestion tool. This free tool helps with brainstorming alternative keywords that may be worth tracking and have the potential to create opportunities. The list of suggestions is quite exhaustive as it gives recommendations sectioned by the alphabet from A-Z.
4. Mozcast
This is an informative and fun tool to use while trying to keep track of the latest Google algorithm updates. Mozcast helps keep SEO analysts informed on updates that could change Google’s rankings.
5. Browseo
Browseo is a great tool that helps SEO analysts view a web page like a search engine. One advantage of this tool is checking alt tags on images. It is an excellent tool to discover images without an alt tag and to find opportunities to optimize existing alt tags.
6. Spyfu.com
Identifying competitors is key to creating an effective strategy for clients. Spyfu is a handy tool in identifying those who compete with a client organically and paid. The tool also features rankings on organic and paid keywords.
7. Google Location Search
Another effective way to identify competitors locally is by making sure the right location is being used while searching for the ranking of a keyword. It’s pretty simple just search for the keyword, click on Search Tools under the query, click on the location (example below is Cedar Falls, IA), and enter in the desired location. This will give the local rankings for the searched keyword. From this page, it is possible to evaluate the local ranking for a particular term.
8. Notepad
No, this is not a joke. For PC users out there, notepad comes in handy for transferring content originally created in programs like Microsoft Word on a page without carrying over annoying html coding. It is a time saver in removing extra, unnecessary coding.
