The Right Team Makes a Difference
In early 2016, one of our key accounts moved from a colleague to myself. This colleague is amazing - an A+ player with outstanding diligence. She possesses qualities I wish I had. However, she could see the account was missing its potential. Soon after the transition, we brought results to new levels, and reenergized this client relationship.
The team has continued to evolve. We brought on an account executive with less technical knowledge but more creativity. We moved from a craftier SEM professional to one with stellar organizational skills. Experience taught us precisely what the account needed and also revealed what it didn’t. Every team member replaced from this account has excelled on others. They have worked on teams where their strengths wonderfully work toward those other accounts’ needs.
This isn’t an example of putting all of the company’s strongest players together. After all, everyone at Mudd Advertising was hired for the elements she or he brings to the organization. Instead this illustrates how attention to a team’s dynamics can propel success.
As I’m writing this, we’re looking to add a digital strategist and an SEO specialist to our digital department. There are, of course, several technical qualities for which we’re looking, but just as crucial will be where and how we see those individuals working within account teams. We love it when our clients succeed, and we make that happen by assembling teams that are greater than the sum of their parts.
