Something New in the Neighborhood

Samsung has recently announced that they will be releasing a new, slimmed-down version of their smartphone frontrunner, the Galaxy S4.  As a top competitor to the iPhone – selling 10 million units in less than a month, as well as its commercials giving off a “we are better than the iPhone” feel – this has caught the attention of many tech-savvy consumers.  After much hype following the design leak, this new “mini” will be formally revealed at the Samsung event in London on June 20.   Promising to be easier to grip than its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Mini will have a 4.3-inch display screen, which is still slightly larger than the iPhone’s, but will be quite a noticeable difference compared to the Galaxy S4’s somewhat bulky 5-inch display screen.  The phone will also weigh 3.77 ounces, a tad lighter than the iPhone’s 3.95.   Samsung’s CEO and president of the mobile division, J.K. Shin, hopes this can provide a greater variety and add practicality to the mobile phone lineup, all while still maintaining the high end Galaxy name.  He states, “We want to give people more choices.”   With the release of the new smartphone, Samsung looks to keep expanding the market by offering a higher amount of diversity in their cell phones, opposed to Apple’s strategy of continuous calibrations to their single product.   Apple is surely in the process of working on their next phone (well probably the next 3 phones), and whether Samsung’s new release will have an affect on their customers has yet to be seen.  Either way, the Galaxy S4 Mini definitely has the potential to be a highly sought after device, and with cell phone usage at what seems to be an all time high, consumers will be keenly awaiting for the announcement of the release date, and most importantly – the price.   The full article can be viewed here: http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/30/tech/mobile/samsung-galaxy-s4-mini/index.html
