What is SEO and Why is it Important?

So what is SEO? The term SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of affecting the visibility of a web page in a search engine's "organic" or un-paid search results. In the midst of the information age this is one acronym that always seems to stand out among the rest, and still many people are unaware of the potential benefits when formulating a digital marketing strategy. Even in today’s digital world there are people who have never heard of or don’t know anything about SEO, but luckily our digital team has provided the knowledge and expertise to inform you of the benefits. The goal of SEO is to move your listing as close to the top of the search engine results page as possible so that people can find you when searching for a relevant keyword or phrase. The higher your listing resides in search results for a given search term, the more visits your website will receive. On a similar note, the more terms you rank well for, the better your chances of earning more visits. Usually, the more often a keyword or phrase is searched for, the tougher it will be to rank among the top results for that term.

How does search work?

Most search engines display results in a similar manner. They navigate the web by crawling more than 60 trillion individual pages, looking for the one that is the most relevant to your search term. Based on hundreds of different ranking factors within the search engine’s algorithm - a process that looks for clues to better understand what you mean - it will deliver the best results possible. These results can take on a variety of forms including text, images, videos, places, and more. The one we’re going to explain today is organic (text) listings.

So how do I get to the top of these listings?

Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. There are many things to take into consideration when crafting your personalized SEO plan, as every website requires a highly personalized strategy. You should consider how search engines work, what people search for and where they search from, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by the targeted audience.
